Linda Update on Moldova

March 7, 2022

Widow’s Might Ministry has been working with widows in Moldova for the last six years. Through our ministry, twenty-six churches are currently caring for these wonderful women. In January, Widow’s Might Representatives traveled to three regions of Moldova and conducted conferences in each of these churches.

I was blessed this past weekend to meet with Mihai and Silvia Ratchei who have been our co-workers in Moldova since 2016. They shared with me the following facts regarding the effects of the current war in Ukraine, and how this war has created new opportunities for the churches with whom we have partnered to help the refugee widows.

One million refugees have fled Ukraine in the last few weeks. 90 thousand of those have come across the border into Moldova. Many among these are widows. They flee to the churches and register their refugee status. After this, the church attempts to meet the needs of the individuals and their families.

The financial impact of both the Covid Pandemic and the Russian invasion has been devastating in Moldova. The price of gasoline has quadrupled and is near $15 per gallon. Natural gas prices have also risen astronomically going from 350 Lei (Moldovan currency) to 1700 Lei because Russia has cut off part of the pipeline into Moldova. The Moldovan people have great concerns regarding the future. They are a faithful people who love the Lord. The churches are working together to help meet the needs of the refugees.

One church brought many workers together and produced Three thousand sandwiches and bottled waters to hand out at a train station as the refugees passed through on their way to Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, and other parts of Europe.

Each of the three regions where Widow’s Might is actively helping widows are involved in the emergency care of the refugees. Ungheni, Orhei and

Șoldănești are providing food, fuel, temporary housing and Christian counseling for the people.  Recently, a refugee with two children made it to Romania where she gave birth to a new child and discovered the next day that her husband had been killed in the war.

Widow’s Might Ministry has chosen key leadership from the following churches: Word of Faith Church in Ungheni with Pastor Stas; The Salvation Army in Ungheni with Pastor Elena;  and Sveta, the wife of Pastor Tudor at Zion Church in Ungheni along with Pastor Ruslan who works with Pastor Tudor.

In Orhei, the second region in which we minister,Three churches have been chosen: Sergie from Bethel Church along with Taisa and Raisa,  Natches, the pastor of the Christian Center and Pastor Victor from the Church of Necolieoca.

The pastors from the third region of Widow’s Might ministry in Șoldănești, are Pastor Vasile and Pastor Serjimora.

God has called Widow’s Might Ministry to help meet the needs of the refugee widows. Therefore, through our connections with our American based Moldovan Pastor and his wife, we will receive designated funds for this purpose. Giving can take place through PayPal on the widowsmightministry.com website, or by check sent to P.O. Box 283, Lake Orion, MI 48361. The check should be made out to Widow’s Might Ministry. In the comment box, please put “for Refugee Widows”. 100% of your donation will be sent to one of our local churches in Moldova to assist meeting the needs of a refugee widow.  We are a charitable organization with a 501C3 designation in the State of Michigan. You will be receipted for your contribution.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this request. Please continue to pray for our ministry to remain faithfully committed to women who are alone in the world. We are looking to you, by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ to supply abundantly so that each of these women will have a testimony of God’s faithfulness.

With love and thanksgiving to the One who is able,

Linda Hostetter
